Shooty shooty bang bang

I promised more camping photos. But then I forgot. Then suddenly it seemed like camping was ages ago and that I had new things to talk about. However! If you want to know details about camping, Justin has put up a good post about it with some photos. This is what I get for leading such an exciting life.

More recent excitement? Shooting. Saturday we had an All-Girl Gun Party followed by a Unisex Steak, Bourbon and Cigar Party. The second name is not approved by other members of the event, though it is accurate. You can read Joy's account of it and see her photos here. (Technically, these are also her photos, since she was the photography gal.)

The shooting range was in an industrial area of San Rafael. I tend not to visualize big things I am going to do if I don't have accurate first-hand knowledge of what it will be like or control over the outcome. But I must say that I did not expect the place to look like an auto-parts store.

The place was, however, not an auto-parts store. It was a shooting range. There were rows and rows of guns to choose from, and there was safety equipment. Krista can find the fun in anything. Here she is finding the fun in safety equipment. Note: Her eyes are closed because the song she's singing is meaningful.

And now (dun dunna nah!) here's a photo of me shooting. I believe we shot a Ruger .22 semi-automatic and a Smith & Wesson .22 revolver. As beginners, we felt that was a good starting point.

I was not a very good shot. But I had fun. In the end, I really didn't have any deep thoughts about it. It did not make me reflect on the fragility of life. It did not make me examine my beliefs. It did not make me ponder man's inhumanity to man.

So, camping and shooting. Now I just need to go on a road trip. I've never done that! If you are a person I know who is not annoying, we should totally do that.

UPDATE: Leona has also blogged about this. You can read it here.

22 SnW Revolver was my Christmas present when I was 9. I am a firm believer that everyone should shoot a gun once in their life. You need to know what to do if the need were ever to arise. The Firing Line down her in HB used to have "Ladies Night". Someone said it was discriminatory towards men and they stopped it. They also had Wally George posters. I used to go every week with my dad. Memories. You ladies rock...but the camping looked cushy.

I have a huger crush on Krista, since she is my wife.

Hey with the Ruger pistol you shot is the same name as the European candy that's popular in the vending machines "Ruger: The reward" I wonder if anyone has accidentally bit down on a bullet whilest eating an afternoon snack.

The sarcastic equivalent of shooting your mouth off.

I think you forgot to add hunting and fishing to your list of things to do that are very manly. After all, you haven't really lived until you've taken a pocket knife to the belly of a bass while it is still flopping around in your cold, killing hands, and ripped out all the innards in one fell swoop, only to then toss the still flopping carcass into a basket for later grillin'.

    THAT'S living.
